The project

The project "L'Italia a nuvolette - Indagine sulla filiera del fumetto italiana" is realized by IMT Scuola di Alti Studi and promoted by Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture. The research is conducted by the LYNX Research Unit of the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, and it aims at analyzing the current situation of the Italian comics industry. 

The research project analyses the industry of the comics field in Italy and its position in the international sphere, by mapping the various stakeholders’ interests. The research outlines a comprehensive perspective on the careers of the comics professionals, the organizational and cultural dynamics of the sector, to understand the value creation of the comics system in Italy. The research outputs will guide the decisions on the implementation of policies related to cultural and creative industries and the development of the cultural sector in a sustainable perspective. 

After the first phase of mapping and studying the Italian comics field, the research will lead to suggestions and policies for the development of the sector, in particular, related to the careers of the comics' producers, the impact of digitization in the production and in the dissemination phase, and in general to the problems of the industry.
